Rede Portuguesa de Jovens para a Igualdade de Oportunidades entre Mulheres e Homens
(REDE)
Founded in 2000, the Youth Portuguese Network for Equal Opportunities for Women and Men (REDE) is a non-profit association.
It is also an informal panel of youth associations, defense of women's rights, youth party, student associations, associations that develop projects aimed at young people and individual young people.
REDE aims to promote gender equality in compliance with the principles and the UN guidelines and the European Union using for such information activities, training, pressure and influence, research, solidarity and education and development cooperation.
REDE was established to mobilize young women for equality in the context of a European project promoted by the European Women's Lobby (EWL) with the support of coordinations Swedish, Portuguese and Greek LEM, the Committee of the Advisory Council NGO Equality and Women's rights, the Community Action Programme Medium Term for Equal Opportunities for Women and Men and the then existing Ministry for Equality.
As main goals, REDE has:
- Acknowledge the / young on issues of gender equality at national, European and international level
- To support the integration of the particular concerns and needs of young women in national, European and international political agenda
- Implement projects (alone or in partnership) in order to contribute to solving the problems faced by young women in Portugal, as well as to the achievement of gender equality
- Mainstreaming the gender equality in associative activities, particularly youth
- Contributing to the increased participation of young people in processes and decision-making positions
- To promote, in a perspective of development of initial skills, the training of young disadvantaged women with a view to their social, economic and community
- Contribute to the inclusion of the gender dimension in the processes of formal education and non-formal
- Organise meetings, symposiums, conferences, seminars and any other initiatives that formentem the discussion of issues related to gender equality
- Conduct studies and research work in the field of gender equality
- Carry out by themselves or through partnerships with national or foreign appropriate bodies, educational activities and development cooperation in order to promote gender equality
- To promote the exchange and cooperation with domestic and foreign entities pursuing similar purposes, in particular by participating in established networks or creating own networks.
REDE is assumed as an organization that brings together two areas: gender equality and youth, and aims to make gender mainstreaming in the youth field.
REDE is a member of:
- Section of the NGO Committee of the Advisory Board for Citizenship and Gender Equality (CIG)
- Founder of the Portuguese Platform for Women's Rights
- The Young Women's Network of Women of Southern Europe Association (AFEM)
- Youth of Euro Mediterranean Platform
REDE is also responsible for the European Network of the Portuguese Coordination Young Women EWL (European Women’s Lobby).
