Stand 129 is a Community Art institution, a neighbourhood project, a meeting point. It is located in the 10th district of Vienna on a market which is known for its original venue far from gentrification.
Stand 129 offers a wide range of projects and workshops in different artistic disciplines to the people of the neighbourhood. The great diversity of the surrounding neighbourhood determines our mission. Stand 129 is a place where people meet that probably would not meet otherwise or do not have many contact points in their daily routines. We especially welcome migrants to be part of our activities.
Stand 129 is also a place where people participate rather than assist. We encourage our participants to form part of our programs in an active and conscious way.
In our work, we always reach out to new target groups in order to reach groups who do not benefit or do not use centralized big cultural institutions of the city of Vienna, such as museums, theatres or festivals. In order to achieve this we believe in direct communication, personal relation and the building of trust. We want to give our participants the chance to experience the process of art production and to form part in our projects as active members of our neighbourhood.
Stand 129 is part of the charity “Caritas der Erzdiözese Wien – Hilfe in Not”. Caritas considers itself a partner and advocate of the poor and marginalized and thus addresses the basic needs of the vulnerable, also taking into consideration their social and cultural background. In addition to basic needs, “Caritas der Erzdiözese Wien – Hilfe in Not” also aims to strengthen social cohesion in society. Stand 129 is part of the department Community Work. This department covers community art, volunteering, youth work, and work with several neighbourhoods, such as ours.
